Scripture

For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgement, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully. (Romans 12:3-8)

God's Gifts are for Use in His Service: The gifts we have received are not ours alone. God gave them to us for the purpose of serving Him and serving other people - each of us has something to give.

Mission Statement

The Hospitality Ministers assist the parish family and work in unison with the priest to provide an inclusive, reverent and safe environment for everyone to participate in Holy Mass and hear God's Word.

Ministry Description

Hospitality Ministers are important servants of the church and perform a variety of tasks before, during and after Mass; they are the representatives of the church to parishioners, as well as visitors - who often receive their first impression of the church from the Hospitality Ministers.

It is necessary for Hospitality Ministers to meet the following guidelines to perform their duties:

  • Good physical condition - capable of standing for extended periods of time and assisting others.
  • Proper grooming and appropriate attire for serving in God's house - as an example, business casual.
  • Attend training developed by the parish specifically for the Hospitality Ministry.
  • Be knowledgeable about general information (Mass times, church forms, etc.) to assist others.

Activities

Hospitality Ministers are needed for each Mass; based upon the layout of Mary Queen, this means a minimum of six persons are necessary at each Mass to serve effectively and efficiently. The general organization of the ministry - each Mass has a team of Hospitality Ministers that serve at that Mass.

There are many functions performed by Hospitality Ministers - among these are the following:

  • Greeting parishioners before Mass and distributing bulletins after mass.
  • Ensuring the sanctuary is prepared before Mass.
  • Preparing the collection baskets for the offertory, taking up the collection and securing the offertory.
  • Coordinating a family to bring the gifts to the altar.
  • Ushering parishioners to receive the Eucharist and assisting parishioners who request assistance to receive the Eucharist.
  • Maintaining a respectful and orderly environment during Mass and assisting with unplanned incidents that may occur.

Events

Hospitality Ministers (Ushers) are required at all Masses.
