A volunteer must 1) be confirmed in and faithfully practicing the Catholic faith, 2) have a desire to grow in his/her relationship with Jesus Christ through prayer and preparation of a weekly lesson, 3) have a desire to share that relationship with young children, 4) attend two required catechist workshops a year, 5) commit to being present for all classes, or to notify the Faith Formation office of absences in advance whenever possible, 6) complete a one hour online archdiocesan workshop entitled Safe Environment Program, CMGConnect Safe Haven and 7) submit to a criminal background check.
Catechist Aide
A volunteer must 1) be in seventh grade or older, and 2) be present for all classes to assist the catechist with the lesson, classroom discipline, planned activities, etc. or to notify the catechist of absences in advance whenever possible. Anyone age 16 years (with parental consent) or older, must complete a one hour online archdiocesan workshop entitled Safe Environment Program, CMGConnect Safe Haven and submit to a criminal background check.
Faith Formation Office Helper
Volunteers must 1) be in seventh grade or older, and 2) be present for one session each week to copy & distribute papers, file records, collect & post attendance, etc., or to notify the administrator of absences in advance whenever possible. Anyone age 16 years (with parental consent) or older, must complete a one hour online archdiocesan workshop entitled Safe Environment Program, CMGConnect Safe Haven and submit to a criminal background check.
Faith Formation Traffic Helper
These “guardian angels” provide hospitality and a watchful eye over the children entering and leaving the Parish Center before and/or after religion classes. They alert the Faith Formation Office of any suspicious or dangerous behavior, and offer directions to parish guests. Must be at least 18 years old, and complete a one hour online archdiocesan workshop entitled Safe Environment Program, CMGConnect Safe Haven and submit to a criminal background check.
Faith Formation Nursery
This is a service provided during regular Faith Formation sessions for infants and small children of Faith Formation volunteers. A nursery staff person must 1) be 18 years or older, 2) be present in the nursery 15 minutes before class to allow time for volunteers to drop off children and prepare for class, or to notify the Faith Formation Office in advance of absences whenever possible, 3) complete a one hour online archdiocesan workshop entitled Safe Environment Program, CMGConnect Safe Haven and 4) submit to a criminal background check. Prior experience in the care of infants and small children is a must.
