Testimonials: Women's ACTS Retreat

Carol Lorance

I attended my first ACTS Retreat in 2010 as a Parishioner from another Parish and took away not only a love for what ACTS brought into my spiritual life, but many genuine friendships that I hold dear to this day!

God blessed me with so many graces that weekend, some of which, I had never experienced before, that it enriched my life and set a fire in my soul.

When my husband and I were interested in relocating to a new Parish there was no question that Mary Queen would be our new home due to my ACTS experience of fellowship and love. I received so many blessings on my 3 day retreat that my excitement convinced my husband to attend one also.

An ACTS Retreat can heal broken wounds, straighten family relationships, and enrich one's prayer life as well. So for anyone discerning about attending a retreat, I would definitely say, "Speak Lord for your servant is listening!"

Looking back at my spirituality before I attended an ACTS retreat, I realize that I was at an infancy stage at best. I was a regular Mass attendant, I prayed at night, and I felt I was doing what God was prompting me to do. But, after my retreat, I was launched into a whole new world. I started to see Christ in a way I never had before or even thought possible. God slowly started to work and move in my life in many areas and I have never been more at peace or joyful than I am now. He used ACTS as an invitation to a new life for me and my family. Praise God for this mission of the Holy Spirit!

The ACTS experience has worked many miracles in our family, bringing my husband and me closer to each other and the Lord. Prayer has become a huge part of our life. I have had many new experiences like Adoration. Reconciliation has also become a renewed part of my life.

And the best part, over a hundred brothers and sisters willing to drop everything and come pray for and help you when you need it, and receive this same service from you when they need it. I can’t express enough the love you will feel when you come home for Mass on Sunday after the retreat. And I can’t express enough how long it will impact you in the months and years to come. Listen for your call to attend. The Lord will bring you to His table when the time is right and the ACTS retreat experience is worthy of Him.

My family and I had been going to Mary Queen for 10 years when God took away every obstacle from me and graced me with my ACTS retreat. My theme was “Be still and know that I am God” Psalm 46:10. With a husband, three active sons and a full-time job where I traveled, this was the perfect verse for me. I said yes when asked to help, but did not have an appreciation for my Catholic faith and heritage. After a wonderful, Spirit led retreat, I realized how blessed I am, and felt the need to evangelize and help others know the love of our Lord, and the richness of our faith. I convinced my husband to go on the next men's ACTS retreat, and that started a journey for our family of spiritual growth that has enriched our marriage and our family more than we could have ever known before our ACTS retreats.

Is it the same for everyone? No. You may already be strong in your faith that it is one more step of steady growth for you, and this is a chance to renew your spirit. Or, it may be a wake up call from God, like it was for us, to start living life as true disciples. I can say that all will experience unconditional love, acceptance, and support from their Sisters in Christ. You will have the chance to “Be still” and be with our Lord. I also love that it is a ecumenical retreat. We welcome other brothers and sisters in different faiths, so we can share about our Catholic faith as well.
